Content Management Systems Compared

What to expect in this article

What is a content management system?

A content management system, or “CMS” for short, is a system for managing your content on the web.

With a content management system, a website can grow quickly, since creating a page takes just one click. Another advantage of a CMS is its ease of use. Thanks to the graphical user interface, the website owner needs no programming knowledge and can maintain the content (text or images) quickly and without trouble.

What is a static site?

A static website consists only of HTML and CSS. Every page must be built “from scratch”. If something changes in the menu, for example, that change has to be applied to every page — which quickly becomes time-consuming with regular website updates.

Do I need a CMS?

Which CMS fits me?

As you can see on our site, we offer various content management systems: WordPress, TYPO3 and Magento. We’ll show you which CMS suits you.

WordPress

WordPress logo

WordPress has more than 4,000 freely available themes and an endless number of plugins. Managing and creating pages and posts is uncomplicated thanks to the WYSIWYG editor. The simple user role system lets you assign concrete roles to users (e.g. an admin has all rights on the site while an editor only has writing rights, etc.). Thanks to its extremely large community, WordPress is flexibly extensible.

WordPress in brief:

  • uncomplicated administration
  • many free themes and plugins
  • cost-effective
  • well suited to small businesses

TYPO3

TYPO3 logo

TYPO3 suits mid-sized and large companies that operate internationally, above all thanks to its built-in multilingual capability. TYPO3 also supports user roles, but far more granular than WordPress. Editing and creating pages and posts takes newcomers more time — in return, the website runs stably even under heavier traffic. Security is ensured through regular updates.

TYPO3 in brief:

  • multilingualism
  • sophisticated permissions management
  • meets the most modern requirements of professional software architecture
  • remains stable even under high load

Magento

An online shop with Magento is an investment that pays off. It is always programmed to the current state of the art. Thanks to its many extensions and modules, Magento is an attractive system for future shop operators. With the integrated inventory management, the shop operator is notified whenever stock falls below the defined minimum.

Magento in brief:

  • integrated inventory management
  • extensive payment options
  • customisable reporting
  • search engine optimised

WooCommerce

A WordPress website can be wonderfully extended into an online shop. With the WooCommerce plugin, we turn your WordPress website into a shop. Installation as well as creating and maintaining products is self-explanatory. WooCommerce can be extended with further plugins, for example 360° product views, payment methods and much more!

WooCommerce in brief:

  • ready for use in no time
  • can extend an existing WordPress website
  • extensible with further plugins
  • uncomplicated adding of products
