SEO Consulting
Some companies do not need an agency that takes everything off their hands. They have editorial, marketing and often development in house. What is missing is someone who looks at the site regularly, sets priorities and answers questions before a decision gets expensive. That is what we do.
Who this is for
This page is aimed at teams that implement themselves. If you would rather have us take over the optimisation completely, our SEO service page is the better starting point. And if you first want to know where your website actually stands, start with the SEO audit.
Typical starting points
- In-house editorial without an SEO background: plenty gets written, but nobody knows whether it pays into the right search terms.
- Development team without SEO backing: technically strong, but unsure about canonicals, indexing control or migrations.
- A relaunch in preparation: nobody wants to find out afterwards that the visibility went down with the old site.
- Agency change: you want to build up expertise internally again instead of commissioning the next black box.
- Second opinion: recommendations are on the table and someone should say honestly which of them hold up.
Consulting is not an audit
An audit is a snapshot. It tells you where the website stands today and hands you a list. After that comes the part most projects get stuck on: the order of work, the implementation in everyday business and the question of what happens when reality gets in the way.
Consulting starts exactly there. We stay with you over time instead of assessing once. In practice that means we look at your drafts before they go live, we take a position on contested decisions, and we follow up when something is left lying around.
What the collaboration looks like
We set the rhythm together, to match your pace. Some teams want a fixed slot every two weeks, others get in touch per project. The one constant is that you have a named contact and do not start from scratch in every conversation.
What the consulting consists of
- Regular sparring: a recurring session that goes through open questions, work in progress and new plans.
- Prioritisation: the long list becomes an order of work that fits your resources.
- Reviews before going live: we look at drafts, templates and new page types while changes are still cheap.
- Decision papers: a clear recommendation with reasoning on contested questions, instead of a list of options.
- Knowledge transfer: your team should be able to make these decisions itself afterwards, not keep asking.
- Monitoring in the background: we keep an eye on rankings, indexing and Core Web Vitals and get in touch when something tips.
What developers do differently in consulting
Many SEO recommendations fail not on willingness but on the fact that they cannot be built in the system at hand. Anyone who has never put a template together underestimates what a change to the URL structure sets off in an existing site. We come from development, so you get recommendations that can actually be implemented in your CMS, including a note on what the effort realistically means. Where load times are involved we measure continuously with our free tool SiteSentry, instead of quoting a score from a single run.
If you do need implementation after all
It happens that something comes up in the middle of the consulting that your team cannot handle on the side, a migration for instance, or a stubborn performance problem. You can commission us with it, but you do not have to. We will also say when a task is done faster and more cheaply in house. For the cases where we take over, there are separate pages on onpage optimisation, PageSpeed and local SEO.
